COLUMBIA, Ky. - After relinquishing an early lead in each game of a doubleheader with the University (Ohio) of Rio Grande, the Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team lost its first two conference matches of the season Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.

Lindsey Wilson (2-8) drops to 2-2 in Mid-South Conference play after being swept in the twin bill.

The Blue Raiders lost the first set of the opening match 26-24, before rallying past the Redstorm in the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-18, respectively.

Rio Grande (7-4) took control of the fourth frame early and capitalized on the lead for a 25-15 win. The deciding fifth set was close until the Redstorm pulled away for a 15-11 win to take the match.

The second game of the night started in the right direction for Lindsey Wilson as it vaulted out to a 2-0 lead after set wins of 25-22 and 25-16. But like the first contest, Rio Grande was able to claw back in the match by winning two straight sets, 25-19 and 25-23, to even the score.

The Redstorm were shaky at the beginning of the fifth set, giving up three service errors before rallying past Lindsey Wilson. Rio Grande took the set 15-10 to win its second match of the night.

Lindsey Wilson travels to the Cumberland University Classic in Lebanon, Tenn., for its next action.

At 1 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 18 the Blue Raiders face Cumberland (Tenn.) University followed by a match with Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College at 3 p.m. The classic continues on Saturday with LWC playing Bethel (Tenn.) College at 9 a.m. and Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University at 1 p.m.
