COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team put its seven-game losing streak to bed Tuesday with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) sweep of Mid-South Conference foe University (Ky.) of the Cumberlands at Biggers Sports Center.
Blue Raider freshman Ashley Haworth paced the squad in kills with 10 while also collecting seven digs. Senior Sarah Kline dished out a team-high 28 assists and nine digs.
Sophomore Samantha Camp impressed in every facet of the game, tallying eight kills for a .429 hitting percentage, seven digs and two service aces.
After starting out the first set in a back-and-forth deadlock, the Blue Raiders eventually built a 14-9 lead off of a dominating block by junior Rachael Achieng. The Patriots (8-13, 2-2 MSC) battled back, but never threatened as Camp put the frame away 25-18 with a kill on set point.
Lindsey Wilson started strong in the second set, eventually pulling ahead 20-13 before multiple errors led to an unexpected Patriot comeback. The score was tied 22-22 when a ball-handling error by Cumberlands sophomore Brittany Weinheimer gave the Blue Raiders a one-point advantage and momentum to seal the set, 25-22.
With a 2-0 lead in the match, Lindsey Wilson didn't slow down in the final set, building the largest lead of the game with a 13-point advantage (21-8). Once again, Cumberlands was able to manufacture a small comeback, but the Blue Raiders buckled down and put the match away with a 25-18 win.
Lindsey Wilson (3-13) improves to an even 3-3 in MSC games.
The Blue Raiders travel to the Lindenwood University Invitational in St. Charles, Mo., for their next action Oct. 2-3. The squad returns home for another conference match at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Oct. 6 against sixth ranked Georgetown (Ky.) College.
