COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College volleyball team made quick work of visiting West Virginia Tech Sunday, winning both matches of the conference doubleheader 3-0. The Blue Raiders won the first match 25-10, 25-4, 25-6 and controlled the second 25-11, 25-5, 25-6 at Biggers Sports Center.

The story of the day was the Blue Raiders' advantage in service aces. The first match was the most lopsided with Lindsey Wilson (6-21, 5-4 MSC) recording 26 aces while the Golden Bears had none.

Six different Blue Raiders tallied an ace in the first match with sophomore Alyca Morrison leading the way with eight while freshman Ashlie Haworth smashed home seven.

Haworth earned most of her service stats in the second set when she took over the match with 17 straight serves. The score stood at 3-2 when the freshman began to serve and after a kill by West Virginia Tech (0-10, 0-6 MSC) killed her rally, the score had ballooned to 23-3.

Junior Rachael Achieng led the Lindsey Wilson attack in the first match with 10 kills. Senior Sarah Kline dished out 14 assists, while Haworth led the defense with 10 digs.

The service game was dominant for the Blue Raiders in match two as well, leading the Golden Bears 18-2 in aces. West Virginia Tech's struggles receiving the ball led to it winning just 22 points in the entire match.

Lindsey Wilson spread out the offensive opportunities in the second match, allowing 10 different players to record a kill. Achieng and sophomore Samantha Camp led the balanced attack with six kills each.

Sophomore Rachael Anderson collected 12 digs in match two, while Kline added 18 assists.

Lindsey Wilson trailed just once for one point in both matches. The Golden Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second set of the second match before the Blue Raiders regained control.

The Blue Raiders travel to Barbourville, Ky., to face Union College at 6 p.m. CT on Oct. 13. The squad then plays three straight home matches starting at 8 p.m. on Oct. 20 against St. Catharine College.
