COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The tradition-rich Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer (MLS) used the 63rd pick of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft to select Lindsey Wilson College defender Shaun Francis on Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pa.

Francis -- who becomes the fourth player selected to MLS in program history -- captained the Blue Raiders to the program's eighth NAIA National Championship this past season.

While leading the Lindsey Wilson defense, the senior also tallied three goals and four assists for 10 points on the season. The Mandeville, Jamaica native finished his three-year Blue Raider career making 61 appearances, while scoring seven goals and nine assists.

Francis was an All Mid-South Conference Honorable Mention selection last season and was a first-team choice in 2008.

The national champion Blue Raiders finished 20-2-1, including a 12-game winning streak to end the season. Lindsey Wilson outscored its opponents 49-2 during that streak, while posting 10 shutouts.

The two-time defending MLS Supporters' Shield-winning Crew used their first pick (No. 8 overall) on Dilly Duka of Rutgers University and second selection (No. 12 overall) on Bright Dike of Notre Dame.

Harvard University's Kwaku Nyamekye was selected third (No. 60 overall) and Othaniel Yanez from the University of Louisville was picked fourth (No. 61 overall).

The Columbus Crew is one of the MLS' Charter Members. It won its first MLS Cup Championship in 2008 and has also won the 2002 U.S. Open Cup championship and MLS Supporters' Shield titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009. It is entering its 15th season overall and 12th in Columbus Crew Stadium.
