KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. -- Lindsey Wilson College head wrestling coach Corey Ruff has announced the signing of Will Bradshaw to an NAIA scholarship, the school announced on Monday. With the signing, Bradshaw becomes the first ever wrestler at
Harpeth High School to sign a scholarship to wrestle in college.
A native of Kingston Springs, Tenn., Bradshaw led Harpeth this season with a career high 42-3 record. Bradshaw ended his career at Harpeth at the TSSAA State Tournament finishing in the Top 16 in the State and overall career high school record of 129-40. Bradshaw was the 2007 Freshman State Champion and most recently claimed the 2010 Region Championship title to advance to the state championship.
Harpeth coach Ricky Woods says that Bradshaw has been a tough wrestler for Harpeth since joining the team his eighth grade year.
"Will's determination is hard to beat and his discipline and work ethic have been the keys to his success," Woods said. "I knew his freshman season after winning the TWF State Championship that Will was headed for a successful career. Injuries prohibited Will from advancing to the State Tournament the past three seasons, but advancing to the State this
year after his championship win in the region tournament was a goal that he set many years ago.
"I am very proud of Will and I'm sure he will continue to excel at Lindsey Wilson."
Ruff says that Bradshaw has all the qualities in a wrestler that he is looking for to reach the goals he has set for the team at Lindsey Wilson.
"We are excited to bring Will's dedication and work ethic to our program. He
is eager to improve, and visualizes himself as a national champion," Ruff said. "Couple
that with Will's academics and it's easy to get keyed up about his future."
Bradshaw said that Ruff made an instant impression on him during a recent visit to the college campus.
"I had visited several other schools and had several offers already out there, but Coach Ruff and the team at Lindsey Wilson really made me feel at home," Bradshaw said. "I knew before I left (the campus) that Lindsey Wilson is where I wanted to be to continue my wrestling and academic career."
Bradshaw not only excelled on the wrestling mat but also in the classroom at Harpeth High School. He will graduate with honors in May. He will finish in the Top 12 of the 2010 Senior class with a 4.03 GPA.
Bradshaw plans to study engineering and educational math and sciences at Lindsey Wilson.
