MOBILE, Ala. -- The Lindsey Wilson College men's tennis team finished off Bethany (Kan.) College 6-1 today at the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center.

The Blue Raiders (17-3) advance to play No. 6-seed Vanguard (Calif.) University at 1 p.m. CT in today's second round.

Lindsey Wilson completed its first round win today after play was suspended on Tuesday due to rains. Play was stopped yesterday with the Blue Raiders leading 2-1 following the three doubles matches.

Lindsey Wilson advanced with four singles wins this morning.

The Blue Raiders opened the match with a pair of 8-2 wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches.

Lindsey Wilson juniors Andrews Moraes and Andre Santos -- playing as the top doubles seed -- defeated Bethany's Shane Huggins and Kody Koester while LWC freshmen Marion Dalpont and Antoine Pourin beat Bethany's Derek Watson and Will Wiseman to take the 2-0 lead.

Bethany (13-4) scored its only point of the match at No. 2 doubles as Jack Schoeman and Fernando Paiva defeated Lindsey Wilson seniors Freddy Luciani and Justin Martin 9-8.

Luciani, Moraes, Santos and Pourin all won in straight sets when play resumed this morning to give the Blue Raiders the 6-1 win. The final two singles matches were halted after the Blue Raiders secured enough points to advance.

The Blue Raiders face Vanguard this afternoon with a berth into the national quarterfinals on the line. Vanguard (14-7) received one of the nine at-large bids in its 10th appearance in the national tournament.
