COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College and Notre Dame (Ohio) College football teams are both in their first season of varsity football and both are looking for their program's first win on Saturday at Blue Raider Stadium.

While Lindsey Wilson will be in its first game in 75 years, the Falcons got their first shot at a win last Saturday at home against Mercyhurst (Pa.) College.

After playing a junior-varsity schedule in 2009 -- Notre Dame went undefeated, winning by a large margin in most games -- the Falcons struggled in the school's first varsity game with just 127 yards of total offense in a 23-0 loss to the Lakers.

Lindsey Wilson head coach Chris Oliver hopes to avoid a similar fate when his team takes to the field at 1:30 p.m. CT.

While Notre Dame enters Saturday's tilt with a game under their belt, Oliver must deal with his young team -- 93 of the top 98 players are freshmen -- playing in their first collegiate game in front of what promises to be an energized home crowd.

"We are the youngest team in the NAIA and one of the youngest teams to ever take the field," Oliver said. "But we're excited that its home and I know Blue Raider Stadium will be electric come Saturday.

"Our guys have been working incredibly hard throughout the start of camp and into our final week of preparation and we're eager to test what we have learned against a very good Notre Dame team."

Despite its loss last week, Notre Dame did find some bright spots in the game. The Falcons pride themselves on stopping the run with an athletic defensive line that limited Mercyhurst to just 92 yards on the ground.

The Lakers did find success against Notre Dame through the air as quarterback Garret Kensy threw for 201 yards on 16-of-27 passing. Kensy finished the game connecting with 11 different receivers.

Supporters of Lindsey Wilson may see the lopsided loss as a reason to believe in a Blue Raider win on Saturday, but Notre Dame head coach Adam Howard doesn't envision his team having too many games end in that fashion.

"Overall, I am very proud of these players and coaches," Howard said following the loss to Mercyhurst. "We fought hard. I feel we'll win a lot of football games."

Howard's idea will be put to the test Saturday by a Lindsey Wilson team that is chomping at the bit to line up against another team and finally start laying the foundation of Blue Raider football.

Gates at Blue Raider Stadium open two hours prior to kickoff, while the parking lots around the stadium will be open to the public for tailgating at 9:30 a.m. CT.
